Cleaning The Silo Containers

4 min read read

Your Silo containers are designed for everyday convenience and can be cleaned just like regular food storage containers.

Follow the guidelines below to keep your containers clean and performing at their best.

Dishwashing Instructions

All parts of the Silo container are dishwasher safe. Follow these tips to ensure proper cleaning:

  • Place the container upside down with a slight tilt so the air tunnel sits at the bottom and drains properly.
  • Open the lid rocker and the splatter cap before placing the lid in the dishwasher.
  • This allows water and air to circulate through the internal channels.

If food particles remain inside the air channel, use a thin brush to gently clean out any residue.

Deep Cleaning & Removing Seals

For deeper cleaning you can remove certain parts of the container.

  • Remove the upper and lower silicone seals by gently pulling them out.
  • All seals are dishwasher safe but can also be hand washed.
  • To remove lid parts such as the lid rocker and splatter cap, lift them gently at about a 45-degree angle.
After cleaning, make sure all components are completely dry before reassembling the container.

Always place lids on the upper rack of the dishwasher. Some dishwashers have heating elements at the bottom that can warp the plastic.

Handling the Silicone Seals

The silicone seals are durable but should be handled carefully during removal and cleaning.

  • Avoid using sharp tools when removing the seals.
  • Clean seals using a soft sponge.
  • Do not use abrasive scrubbers that may damage the silicone.
  • Dry the seals completely before reinstalling them.

Reinserting the Seals

  • Insert the upper seal by aligning the back notch and pressing it into the lid groove.
  • Ensure the seal sits evenly around the entire lid circumference and aligns with the air port.
  • Press the lower seal back into the groove around the container base.

Food Staining

Silo containers are made from Tritan™, a stain-resistant material.

If staining occurs, simply run the container through additional dishwasher cycles. Persistent stains typically disappear after repeated washing.

Regular cleaning helps maintain the container's vacuum sealing performance.
