Setup Troubleshooting

5 min read

We understand that setting up new tech can sometimes hit a few snags. But fear not! We're here to guide you through any setup issues with your Silo device so you can get back to keeping your food fresher, longer. Follow our easy troubleshooting steps below, and you’ll be up and running in no time.

Before You Begin: A Quick Checklist

Before moving to the troubleshooting steps, let’s make sure everything is set properly for your Silo's setup. Here are a few things to check:

  • Amazon Account: Required to use Alexa with your Silo. Make sure you have an Amazon account and are signed in.
  • Wi-Fi Network: Ensure your network is 2.4GHz. Silo does not support 5GHz.
  • Device & App Status: The Silo light ring should be orange, and the app should be ready to detect your device.

Issue 1: Silo Is Not Powering On or Ready to Pair

What's going on?

Your Silo isn’t powering on, or the light ring isn’t turning orange when you plug it in.

Solutions

  • Double-check the power connection: Ensure the plug is securely connected to both the outlet and the Silo.
  • Reset your Silo: If the device doesn’t respond, try performing a factory reset.

Issue 2: Can't Connect Silo to Wi-Fi

What's going on?

During setup, Silo needs to connect to your home Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz only). If it fails, one of the following may be the cause:

  • Network name or password contains spaces or special characters.
  • Trying to connect to a 5GHz or unstable dual-band network.
  • Using WPA3 encryption which is not supported.
  • Weak Wi-Fi signal.

Solutions

  • Remove special characters or create a dedicated network.
  • Use a 2.4GHz network only.
  • Switch encryption to WPA2.
  • Move the Silo closer to your router.

Issue 3: Unable to Find Silo During Setup

What's going on?

The app may not detect your Silo if it's not in pairing mode or if permissions are missing.

Solutions

  • Ensure pairing mode: The light ring should be orange.
  • Enable location services and app permissions.
  • On iPhone, enable Local Network access.
  • Use 'Alternate method' or 'Connect manually' in the app.

Issue 4: Alexa Integration Issues

What's going on?

You may encounter issues while signing in or linking your Alexa account.

Solutions

  • Retry the specific login or linking step.
  • Restart the setup process.
  • Reinstall the app and reset the device if needed.

Issue 5: Setup Process Stuck or Not Completing

What's going on?

Sometimes the setup process may freeze or not complete properly.

Solutions

  • Restart the setup process.
  • Reinstall the Silo app.
  • Power cycle the device.
  • Perform a factory reset if needed.
