If you encounter technical issues, have concerns about privacy, or simply prefer a simpler experience, you can set up your Silo device in Basic Mode. This allows you to use Silo’s core functionality without enabling the full smart features.
What Can You Do in Basic Mode?
In Basic Mode, your Silo will still work for the following core functions:
- Vacuum-sealing your storage containers
- Using the built-in food scale to weigh ingredients or items
However, Basic Mode disables several of Silo’s smart features.
- No current time and date display
- No food labeling
- No shelf-life estimation
- No container management
- No freshness notifications
Activating Basic Mode
1. Start with a Factory Reset
After a factory reset or during initial setup, the device display will show instructions to download the Silo app.
Instead of completing setup through the app, follow the steps below to enter Basic Mode.
2. Press and Hold the Minus and Action Buttons
- Press and hold the Minus and Action buttons simultaneously
- Hold them for approximately 3 seconds while setup instructions are visible on the screen
3. Confirm Basic Mode
- The Plus button will illuminate green to confirm Basic Mode
- The Minus button will illuminate red if you want to cancel and continue with the normal setup
Once Basic Mode is selected, your device will provide visual and audio confirmation that the mode has been activated.
Exiting Basic Mode
To exit Basic Mode and restore the full smart functionality of Silo, perform a factory reset and set up the device again using the Silo mobile app.
