Let's get you acquainted with your Silo base. Understanding its different parts and controls will help you get the most out of your Silo experience.
Exploring the Silo Base Exterior
Here's a quick tour of the physical parts of your Silo base.

- Top Glass Surface — This is where you'll place your Silo containers for vacuum sealing. It's durable and easy to wipe clean.
- Reservoir — A removable component that collects liquid overflow during sealing. See the reservoir cleaning guide for details.
- Front Interface — Contains the buttons, screen, microphones, and light ring used to control your Silo.
- Reset Button (Right side) — Used for troubleshooting such as resetting Wi-Fi or performing a factory reset.
- Power Port (Back) — Connect your power cord here and secure the cable in the groove when stowing the device.
- Speakers (Sides / Back) — Provide Alexa responses, notifications, and audio feedback.
- Light Strip (Back) — Mirrors the Light Ring indicators when the Silo base is placed in its vertical stowed position.
Understanding the Front Interface
The front interface is your command center for interacting directly with the Silo base.

- Label Button — Starts the voice labeling process after sealing a container. Press again to finish labeling or exit scale mode.
- Scale Button — Enters scale mode for weighing ingredients. Press again to tare (reset) the weight. Hold to switch between ounces (oz) and grams (g).
- Alexa Action Button — Interact with Alexa without saying the wake word. Hold to activate setup mode.
- Microphones — Capture voice commands for Alexa and food labeling.
- Light Ring — Displays visual feedback such as blue when Alexa listens, cyan during setup, and amber when microphones are disabled.
- Screen — Displays weight measurements, Wi-Fi status, Alexa responses, and setup prompts.
- Volume Down Button (-) — Decreases the device volume.
- Volume Up Button (+) — Increases the device volume.
- Microphone Off Button — Disables the microphones. When active, the button glows red and Alexa will not respond.
The screen on the Silo device is not a touchscreen. All actions are performed using the physical buttons, interactions with containers on the glass surface, or Alexa voice commands.
